i can see into the future....

October 18, 2007 - Stoke-on-Trent, United Kingdom

So today was basically spent on the road to get us all the way back down to Edinburgh. We had a few short breaks and lunch in Carbestel. Our first stop of the day was at the Cullonden battlefields where the Jacobites and the British government fought for the last time, which was an interesting story. Nasty battle, and and even nastier aftermath! The cheeky buggers tried to ban kilts and bagpipes….ahh hello….that’s everything Scottish! Silly Bonnie Prince Charlie….he had no chance! Anyway, it was a long interesting story and as I stood there and shivered in the 10 degrees it felt like and I imagined how they all left in the snow in the dead of winter…..it was sad! We drove past a castle named ‘Blair’ of all things, and it turns out there is an interesting story behind that castle to! The guy that owned the place was, well, he bats for the other team and since he didn’t have any children and no other living relatives in Scotland…the only one they could track down was a distant relative that lived in South Africa. Turns out the guy was worth 60 million pounds, had about 8 acres of land and this massive castle, and this random South African inherited the lot! Man I wish I had some long lost distant loaded relative! Hehe! Anyway, onwards towards Edinburgh we had one last stop of in St Andrews for a little shopping and wandering round before heading to the train station, where we had a lovely 4 hour train ride down to Stafford to meet up with Fiona and Phil to go to Alton towers the next day! Yay! Unfortunately it cost us a freaken arm and a leg to get there. I thought Ursh booked the train tickets when we were at her Aunty’s, but she only booked the accommodation so by the time I asked a few days later whether she did, we didn’t have internet access until we got back to Edinburgh so instead of the 21 pounds we were hoping to pay it cost us 60!!! That’s like $150!!! We weren’t impressed! But we had no choice…..grrrr! Oh well! Turns out the day ended on a funny note....We had to catch 2 trains to get to Stoke on Trent, and it was like 10:54 when we got on the second train so we were tired and ready for bed when i said to ursh "now the hotel is going to be smack bang across the road from the train station as soon as we walk out so all we will have to do is cross the road and crawl into bed". Well, what are the chances of that actually happening right? Well, it was true....clear as day the big neon sign flashing North Stafford hotel was staring us right in the face......FREAKY!!! Turns out i can see into the future.....do do do do....do do do do....creepy.

HI NIesha well it is Sunday and I am at work trying to clear my work before heading off to Sydney for the week. the Culloden battle was certainly a dreadful fight to the death and from what I have read about, the temperature was about what you have just experienced and less!! I have a fabulous historical novel on the Jacobites and it was one place I really wanted to get to when I was in Scotland but it didn't eventuate (some festival booked out the place). So you are nearly ready to head home and who can believe it has gone so quickly. Your extra days leave is done so enjoy and relax before you step back into the office attire and ...................
Have a great time on the remainder of your trip and hope to catch up real soon. lots of love .Libby x
