Heksinki
August 8, 2007 - Helsinki, Finland
Ok so Helsinki….there is just so much to talk about! We landed in the airport at around lunchtime, caught a cab to the hotel…and SLEPT! Very exciting aren’t we! We were awake for 2 days straight catching planes from Toronto to New York to Helsinki, so we were shattered! I crashed for about 4 hours and then had a quick walk around our area, but there was nothing exciting. I went into the supermarket to buy an ice-cream, cause that was about the only thing that I knew what it was. Everything was not in English of course! So I waited for Ursh to wake up 3 hours later…we made it as far as the pizza joint around the corner and then wandered back to the room. Such an exciting place Helsinki! Haha. We were lucky here though…apparently their custom laws mean that you cant bring any liquids through the airport, and there was this guy that had 2 bottles of white wine and a bottle of rum that he had bought duty free. Well as we were walking off through customs, since we were staying in Helsinki for the night and he had a connecting flight, he asked us if we wanted it otherwise it was going in the bin. So of course…HELL YES we say! We gave the rum to someone else in the customs line and one other bottle away as well…considering we were only going to be there one night….but boy did it come in handy. Due do Ursh’s 7 hour afternoon nap and my 4 hour one…we couldn’t sleep! So here we were at 2:00am trying to hunt around for a bottle opener to crack this bottle of wine….praying that it would help us sleep! Do you think we could find one….of course not! So since it was a plastic cork…Ursh gets out a pen which does the trick! SCORE! We had the bottle….but not a lot of sleep unfortunately….and then it was off to the airport for yet another flight! Yay for us! So yes, nothing to tell you about Helsinki im sorry! We were shattered!
