Rome

August 27, 2007 - Rome, Italy

Hi Ho Hi Ho its off to ROME we go!! We didn’t have a long drive today, which was great…cause it meant more time to spend in Rome. We arrived quite early in the afternoon and had an hour to chill out before our walking tour started! It was soooo hot though, we checked out emails, sat in the shade and enjoyed the break. Our guide was this old Italian woman that added an ‘o’ or an ‘a’ to the last word in her sentences (for those who have ever learnt some Italian you’ll know what im going on about - damn masculine and feminine words) It was a little bit hard to hear her sometimes, so I missed a few things, but she taught us quite a bit. me at the outside of the coleseumWe started off at the coliseum, just a walking around the outside of it. We leant all about how the coliseum lost part of its walls, all the games and things that went on inside (gladiators fighting animals, animals fighting animals, gladiators fighting gladitors - lots of blood and gore) all that sort of info. It was really interesting. Gross, but interesting! =) Its amazing to think, that all that time ago the romans were smart enough to built something that would still be standing almost 2000 years later! Incredible! I mean, look at that bridge that collapsed in Minneapolis last month, that was only built 40 years ago and that crumbled down! Crazy huh! All these years ive been waiting to see this stuff it still isn’t registering that im actually seeing it! The walls that still stand to this day…ahhhh amazing! We then headed on to see some ruins in the roman forum which were pretty cool. the roman forumWe saw the site where Alexander the great was cremated, which really isn’t as interesting as it sounds. It was literally a rock which had a flower on it…haha! It was in this like…half a building looking thing…wasn’t even worth a pic though! Haha! The rest of the stuff was though. It really is breathtaking thinking about how old all this stuff is that we are walking through. the virgin gardensWe carried on to see the virgin gardens and then it was off to see the pantheon. It was pretty cool inside, but after seeing that cathedral in Barcelona nothing will ever compare to that!me and ursh in the pantheon All this walking was done in like 40 degree heat again…..so hot….want to touch the hiney…aroooo!! HAHA Yes, still quoting stupid adam sandler movies =)But yes, it was bloody hot! me at the trevi fountain We also checked out the Trevi fountain and threw in our coins to make a wish.....I think I wish i could get all that money out of the fountain to spend it!! No, I cant...its illegal! No really, it is...there is a law in Rome that you are not allowed to go into any of the fountains. You will get a 1000 Euro fine for entering the trevi fountain. Funny hey! ursh and i making our wish at the trevi fountainSo after all that walking, sweating to death, and eating icecream (yes, more Italian ice cream…yum yum) and seeing how beautiful everything was, we had some gnocchi for dinner…yum yum, and headed to our accommodation, which was another mossie infested cabin (yes my legs look hot with all those lovely big red bumps)! We at least had a little more room to move in this one! Im definitely over having to walk a mile to the toilet in the middle of the night….bring on the hotels please!
