Vatican City!
August 28, 2007 - Vatican City, Vatican City
Yay, the Vatican! Off we headed, on public transport (yay for us) to Vatican City! Unfortunately what the train said, and where we actually stopped were two different things, so our tour manager actually missed the train station stop we were supposed to get off at, but it wasn’t to far of a walk! We headed in early, because Cindy knew there would be a big line to get in (up to 3 hours wait) so as we turned the corner to see what would usually be the end of the line, there was nothing…woohoo….the line was only about an hours wait tops! Cindy had told us a story about how we should try and push in by walking up close to the beginning of the line and pretend like we are taking photos and stuff for a few minutes and then just start walking with the crowd so no one would notice…haha sneaky…but we didn’t need to as the line wasn’t that long! So a few people from the group headed into the internet café across the road from where we were in line to kill some time. Unfortunately ursh and I had to wait for a bit, so we crossed the road and went into another one for 20 mins, and guess what….when we walked out, the rest of the group was already inside!!! EEEK!!! There was no way we were going to line up again….so cindy’s advice came in handy! Hehe Ursh and I just had a little pretend argument about where we were going to meet up with people and looking at the map and pretending like we were all confused and angry that we had been left behind and WALAH!!! Hehe in the front door we go….not even 5 minutes in line! Haha! Sneeky sneeky! So after about half an hour of wandering through the Vatican we caught up with some others from the group, checked out the Sistine Chapel (where camera’s are not allowed but we still snuck a few photo’s! Then it was off to see St Peter’s Basilica, where yet again…the line was a mile long….so….it was time for operation sneaky sneaky again! Do do do…off we go…walking with the crowd, taking pictures, pretending like we were in line already! Hahaha! I know I know, its wrong, but when you are on such a tight time frame you don’t have time to wait in lines! I needed to see a doctor, for the lovely chest infection turned bronchitis and the conjunctivitis ive been blessed with so we needed to get back to the campsite quite early! We quickly jumped on the bus so we could head back to the coliseum for a tour inside before we headed back…I didn’t want to miss that! So line cutting number 3 for the day came in handy….although this time we actually had friends that we spotted closer to the front so we just cut in with them! Hehe! It truly was incredible inside. So much more than I expected! I didn’t even know there wasn’t a floor anymore and that you could see all the little hidden tunnels and stuff that was underground back then. It was so cool! We walked all around inside, and went up to the second level, which was the weirdest feeling ever walking up the stairs. They were kinda on a angle, so it was actually more hard work to get up the damn steps! This has definitely been a highlight of the whole trip!! So like I said, ive been sick for a while so we headed back to the campsite early so I could head up to the hospital, which turned out the bus driver said would be a 5 hour wait and I wouldn’t get any medication after 5pm so it was a waste of time heading back! Turns out you can get meds over the counter in Greece so im just gonna hold out till then! Grrrr. So we enjoyed doing our laundry (NOT) and chilled out for the arvo. BORING! It was so hot though so I wasn’t going to complain to much….plus I was struggling to breath at this point so the rest did me good! We snuck a nap in before dinner! Hehe!
