Turn right at the Narmer Palette
I have arrived at the museum. It is hotter than I thought possible here, I'm soaked with sweat, but you know what, I don't really care. The walk from my hotel to the museum takes about 10 minutes and is down a street which is lined with auto repair shops and parts stores. To get here, though, I have to cross a very busy street and there are no traffic lights, you just have to jump out into traffic and have faith that they'll stop for you. The entire walk I didn't see a single Westerner. I started the day by going to the Nile Hilton for breakfast and then to a shop to buy a cell phone card. I then went back to my hotel and picked up my laptop and went to the museum, where I am now working less than ten feet from the famous Narmer Palette. There is a simple screen separating the area in which I'm working from the main hall of the museum.

Will you be living in the hotel the entire time you are there? How would you describe your room and the food you had so far? We send lots of love from the USA!

Very exciting. I am very glad that you have made it to both the Cairo and to the museum safely. Sounds like the most difficult part of your travels is the short walk to the museum. You hotel room looks like it should be a comfortable A/C home for the next few weeks. Drink plenty of water and look both ways before crossing the street and run fast.

Patrick: this is exciting for you. What are you doing in Egypt? Are you working at the museum? How long are you going to be there? Will you be traveling to other cities? Are you with other people or are you traveling alone? Be careful but have a good time.

Wow - sounds like you'll be playing a little Frogger, jumping/running across the street dogging cars each day to get to the museum. I was excited to have had to chance to chat with you today and your translation work sounds extraordinary! I'm glad you have a comfy hotel room to cool off from that intense heat! Whew!
Thanks for keeping us all up to date on your adventures!
