We've both become targets for mossies on our last night in Venice. What a mess! Bites the size of small oranges (OK, very very small oranges but they look bigger) Oh so itchy! Looks like we've been in a paintball war with only red paint and no protective clothing!
We had a great farewell dinner at a Trattoria close to the hotel that we had seen from our Gondola ride and it was both delicious and entertaining. We had the biggest clown for our waiter and met a great couple from Rome. Very sad to leave such a unique place - we have really enjoyed ourselves here.
The train trip from Venice to Milan was over before we knew it. Just 2 1/2 hours in high speed comfort and we were picking up our rental car for the trip up to Lago Como and our home for the next week...Domaso. Heavy heavy rain on the drive reduced visibility and caused minor flooding, meaning everyone slowed to a snails pace. This meant a slightly longer trip than expected and Hans and Yolanda, our villas' owners, had been waiting for us for a while when we arrived. What a great couple. Welcoming and so willing to show us around their well stocked villa, they just couldn't have been more helpful. They've also bought us a bottle of welcome bubbles and Hans even thought he should have bought his spare mobile phone up for us to use once he found out that I'd left my one at home! This will be perfect for everything we want to see and do over the next week.
Right at the top end of the lake, Domaso is surrounded by towering mountains and is visually stunning [We'll get some pics up as soon as we can]. It sits on the ferry route meaning we should be able to navigate our way to the other main lake townships easily and without the car.
This will be a good idea as the streets narrow to bottle necks in many places and navigating them with cars coming in the other direction is precarious! In fact finding the villa was a mission in itself. Tucked away up a "street" the width of a pretzel, we managed to get to the end of the road and then had to turn around! A 20 point turn would probably be an understatement. Having to turn the car (and remember this is a small car, an Alfa 147) around in a space smaller than the car itself was a challenge! Successfully in the garage, I have the feeling it might stay there most of this week!
We polished off the welcome bubbles on our terrace this avo and now we're trying to drain the 2 litres of vino Desi purchased last night for Euro3.40. What a bargain!
We could get used to this!

You should've let Desi turn the car around Pete! I'm sure she could have done it in less than 20 turns! Ha, ha!
