update....

January 3, 2008 - Bangkok, Thailand

well, i have been incredibly shoddy at keeping my journal updated, but have been so busy...

on entering thailand we went to ayuthaya, which is the old capital, and the ruins are sooo beautiful...we stopped at a bar in the evening for a beer and to listen to lek clapton singing!!! we sat in the loverly warm evening at the bar and updated our written journals for the day...

from there we went to kanchanaburi, which was mind blowing. what we thought about the river kwai and what we thought we knew were all blown out of the water. we met an amazing chap called nathan who we spent the whole time with and who is meeting us in vietnam. it was soooo emotional seeing the cemetary for 7000 of the 15,000 POW s who died building the railway from burma to thailand, and then spending time on the bridge was also so moving...the evening was spent buying contraband beer from the kitchen door of the hostel as is was the night before the election and they were not allowed to sell beer....as a consequence we had to drink it in the garden and, let me tell you, three drunk brits do not fit in a hammock!!!!

from here to cha-am where we met my mum and chilled out for a week on the beach and by the pool. we then came to bangkok and mouse and her mum stayed in hoihin until nye....NYE was a riot!!! we spent it in the gogo area of bangkok with naked ladies in santa hats dancing around!

new years day we went to the cinema to see national treasure and mouse's mum went home....so we are parentless again....

we went to see the golden compass yesterday which completely blew us away, it was bloody amazing! bought the book for mouse to read today and i bought the second one....

cannot wait to get out of thailand and back on the road....we have our vietnam visas and leave on the 6th...

hanoi here we come!

xxxxxxx

I'm so glad you're having a great time, Pol. I hope things in Vietnam are fantastic!
