mum and i rock cambodia.....

April 19, 2008

well...cambodia was amazing.....

we vistited the killing fields in phnom pehn, then we went to siem reap and saw all the temples...including seeing the sun rise over angkor wat, which is the most remarkable thing i have ever seen in my life.....then we spent 10 hours visiting all 11 temples, in the jungle, in mid 40's heat....got a little harsh in a few places but it was astounding....we stood in the amazing tomb raider temple, maybe even in the very spot angelina stood in....who knows!!!!

then we poddled down to sinhoukille to serendipity beach on the south coast. beautiful. breathtaking. amazing. took mum to a beach party where we watched fire eaters and crazy dancers and then headed to bamboo island to snorkle and swin in the clearest sea. we also visited the nature reserve while we were there which was beatiful,  we saw dolphins in the sea! met a cool chick called clare while there and i shall be travelling with her for a little while before i head up to chang mai to be reunited with sam from saigon. woohoo!

cambodia is a hard hard country. its old, but its knew. its effectivly 30 years old. the population over 40 accounts for around 40%. they were literally all killed. as a consequence, the country is so corrupt and pediphilia is horrifically high, as well as sex trafficing. my friend jason was approached by a tuk tuk man who said:
tuk tuk
no thank you
marajuana?
no thank you
lady?
no thank you
child?
FUCK OFF

there are posters everywhere saying sex with children is illegal and children should be allowed to have a childhood. but this is a country of children run by children, its heartbreaking. i dont forsee it gaining its strength for at least another 30 to 40 years. the good news is that there are a shit load of charities and ngo's making a massive differance. lets hope it carries on this way.

miss you loads and love you loads and loads too,
