Day 17 & 18

April 28, 2008 - Delhi, India

We had a well deserved lie-in yesterday morning, before visiting a slum area of Delhi to help vaccinate children under 5 against Polio. It was physically and mentally draining due to the heat and the immense poverty that we experienced.

On the other hand, we went to MacDonalds for lunch...it was the nicest McMeal Pragya has ever tasted, so much better than the dirty fast food restaurants you find in the UK! And only for couple of pounds. Afterwards we went to watch a Bollywood movie called Tashan (Style). This was Jo's introduction into Bollywood, which she enjoyed.

Today Pragya worked in the pharmacy and later joined Jo in the school. In the afternoon we taught the English class which was very much improvised.

This evening we visited a very uptown shopping mall in Delhi, where you can find all the English brands including M&S, The Body Shop and Next. This was very exciting for us as it was so different to the usual chaos of Delhi.

Off to bed xx

Aaargh - turning greener by the minute with envy, we are back home now. it is like the bus has suddenly stopped, no longer are we living in a world of continually changing views and experiences. We had a lovely time, but if anything could have been added to our trip it would have been experiencing and dealing with a different culture, language and food. With this comes the smells and sights which are hard to get your head around, enjoy them all . None of us have seen the Taj - you lucky things. Bye off to work now................
