We've had a busy couple of days.
We both went on the medical bus yesterday morning. There were a lot of people with fevers, stomach bugs, coughs and colds coming for treatment, mainly caued by poor diet and the heat. The doctor we observed was really nice as she took her time with the patients, unlike the doctors we have previously seen who are very abrupt and don't seem to have much empathy. We had another(!) lazy lunch in cafe Turtle, reading our books and then we went to homework club.
We attempted to go to Qutab Minar (an old monument in south Delhi) and the Garden of the 5 Senses in the evening but failed miserably. It cost us loads to get there only to find it wasn't open. And when we got to the Garden, it was pitch black so there wasn't much to do. So... we had an ice cream instead.
Busy day today. Had a nice long lie in then went out for a MacDonalds - yum. Jo, Pragya and Abbie went to Gandhi Smriti, the place where Gandhi lived for the last year of his life, and where he was assassinated. Then we went to Connaught Place to meet the other Gappers to go on a tour of Old Delhi. We took the metro to Chandni Chowk (a bazaar) and got cycle rickshaws to the spice market. We winded our way through the tiny back alleys of the market to a Jain Temple. After, we looked at Jama Masjid (one of the biggest mosques in Asia -we weren't allowed in as it was prayer time). Then it was off to Raj Ghat, the gardens where the Gandhi family were cremated. For dinner we went to Karim. a famous restaurant near the mosque. Took another metro back to Connaught Place and then had to negotiate with the auto drivers for ages to get home - every simple thing seems to turn into a discussion in India! But now we are here and now we want to go to bed! xx
PS we will put some photos up soon
