We set off from Boston at midnight and did our first overnighter on the greyhound bus!.. not as many weirdos as everyone said there would be. We arrived in Montreal at 6.45am oh my god it is much colder here than USA!
Montreal is very French so French you would actually imagine it to be France! completely not expecting Montreal to be like this. Very beautiful gorgeous old grey stoned buildings and big traditional looking lamps hanging from most corners of the streets instead of our boring street lighting. It has the same areas as NY and Boston with its China Town, Little Italy, Financial District and Latin Quarter and the old town all rammed with little touristy shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. Some of the shops are little strange, some streets would either have dozens of triple XXX sex shops and then they would turn into very strange fancy dress shops and then hat shops! maybe this is something that Montreal is famous for..? one thing that it is famous for is its smoked meat (not that I would be participated) particulary a little place called Schwartz which was recommended by the guy who worked at the hostel who also informed us that Celine Dion who owns an island off Montreal has a weekly order fedex-ed over to her!
We met a couple of Kiwi girls at the hostel we were staying, so on Thursday night we went out for a pizza with then and onto a few of the local bars many many vodkas, Wines ,Brandys ,Beers and shots later we ended up in a regae bar with a jamaican guy and a real french guy who locked the doors and we all decided that we should play all the various instruments that were littered about the place including a full set of drums, guitars, bongos and a recorder.. you should have heard the state of it!! The following day was a write off
Saturday - Montreal Casino! oh wow its on its own island! Five floors of every form of game you can imagine with disco Divas scattered about and various restaurants from the outside it looks like a massive Boat Cruiser!
Then onto why Montreal is called Montreal - Mount Royal! its not much of a mountain but very gorgeous. I am so glad that we are seeing this place in Autumn the colours everywhere are so so striking!
next Ottawa
Montreal Week 2.. already
