Niagara Falls

October 24, 2007 - Niagara Falls, New York, United States

We arrived in Niagara without any booking for a room that night. So we walked to the nearest Hostel... but there was no room at the inn! Luckily they suggested another place that wasn't too far away. The backpacks were hurting like hell but we made it there - without a map, after a few pointers from some friendly locals.

This place was like a haunted house from phsyco or something. Greeted  by a creepy (but nice) old lady the place was soooo quiet - all you could hear was an ancient ticking clock from 1801 which blended in with the equally old decor and wood panneling. This place was like your great great great grandfathers house. I think we were the only people that had stayed there that year - or at least it felt this way. But hey this place was clean, quiet and welcome change from the hole we stayed in at Toronto or London!

Ok.. we have a couple of hours before dark to see these famous falls, so we head off following the river to the Falls which took about 30 minutes. Oh wow they they are! it was actually really nice seeing them in the distance and seeing the more magnificent they got the closer we approached.  One thing we did notice is how very commercialised this place is, on one side you have the incredible beauty of the falls and on the opposite side of the road its Blackpool with all the tourist shops, restaurants and various amusements! it abit of a shame actually :(
