Chicago - The windy city

October 29, 2007 - Chicago, Illinois, United States

Chicago! One of the places in America I was looking forward too… mainly to try the Famous Chicago deep filled Pizzas! Oh by the way they are gorgeous

Our first night we decided to stay in the All Rise Gallery Apartments described on Hostelworld.com as clean and nice little rooms with large communal area, and the world’s most amazing washing machine (check out the video online). So we thought Arrr what the hell lets splash out an extra $60 per night and enjoy something a bit fancier than our normal hostel room.  We were very much mistaken it looked exactly like an art gallery with little plaster board rooms with no windows and no decoration and the very strange American Lady owner whom actually lived there too – so we felt like we were being watched constantly! Luckily it was only for one night as my friend Tash had invited us to stay with her for the remaining of our stay in Chicago.

Tash lives on Michigan Avenue which is one of the main streets into Chicago City Centre opposite Burnham Park in what the Americans call Condos (apartments) on the 18th floor Wow the view is amazing! You could stare out of it all day long and tash’s apartment is beautiful! We felt like royalty after all the not so great hostels of America!

Chicago has great shopping including a street called the magnificent mile.. it would have been more magnificent if our traveling budget would have allowed a few purchases.  Navy pier was also a short walk from Tash’s walking past lake Michigan which is quite unbelievably massive, it looks like the ocean its actually wider than the English Channel.  Navy Pier is pretty cool with its Ferris Wheel and little shops and restaurants all on the lakeside.

Halloween .. the long awaited event of the year! We have been looking forward to it greatly! All day people of Chicago were dressed up in there mad costumes with painted faces.  We thought we go and check out what happens… which is… basically… everyone gets drunk.  Me and Roo went to a lot of Irish Bars and drank a lot of alcohol we had to join in the Festivities didn’t we?

Our next stop is Las Vegas but we have one hell of journey to get there.
