Melbourne

January 15, 2008 - Melbourne, Australia

All our time here has been spent with my little sister Lydia and husband Mick and their little 7 month old Puppy Terrence at their place in Greensborough, Melbourne.  So great to unpack our stuff and not think about packing again for the next 7 weeks Yahoooooo

On day two in Melbourne my high flying little sister had to go to Canberra to overlook a racing day for work and her company said that they would pay for me to go along with her as it was our 1st weekend together and she couldn’t get out of this event.  Andy & Mike dropped us off at Melbourne airport and we sat in the very nice Quantas frequent Flyer lounge drinking free wine, champagne with Olives and cheese.  We stayed over in a hotel near the Race Course in Goulburn and first thing Saturday Morning we drove off to the racecourse! Lydia spent most of the day rushing around talking to customers and ensuring everything went smoothly while I had a drive in one of the V8 Supercars with one of the V8 Drivers! reaching speeds of 295k translated 180 mph.

Well our first couple of weeks here were spent being lazy and getting ready for Christmas and exploring Melbourne! Lydia and Mick had 3 weeks off over Christmas and New Year so perfect time to catch to spend some quality time together.  Christmas Day was spent with 18 of Mick’s Relatives .. really does not feel like Christmas when its hot outside. New Years Eve a whole group of us went into the City in the sweltering 42 degree heat which didn’t get cooler when the sun went down! We had tickets for the Belgian Beer Garden at the Eureka Tower! Cool little place.  The ticket covers all food and alcohol all night long including shots!! With various DJ’s and saxophone player.

The days following NYE we visited Marysville a little retirement town with a sculpture Garden (check the photos out) climbed a waterfall – literally or it felt like it.  We also spent a day in the Yarra Valley trying out a few of the vineyards and the most amazing cheese! Yum Yum. It was so nice, we decided to splash a little too much cash and bought 40 quids worth of cheese for our trip! So we could do our own cheese and wine evenings

Our last week together we rented a house out on the Great Ocean Road in a little gorgeous place called Separation Creek which is about 20 minutes from Lorne.  We loved this place and we picked the right house Ocean views from the kitchen, living room and a big terrace with a BBQ and the weather stayed hot all week.

We leave in two days with the Camper van we have hired and we are driving all the way up to Cairns….
