Hey everyone, apologies for taking an age to update this thing, we have been a tiny bit busy....
So, as well as seeing all the sights on Wednesday we decided to go in search of a beach. We got the train to Fondi which was pretty uneventful. We got there at 2.05pm and went into a shop to buy bus tickets to Sperlonga where the beach was. In there, we were greeted by a potential start of world war 3!!!! Shop owner was screaming at his girlfriend, who in turn looked like she was going to throw a tin of coffee beans at him. They were very annoyed at being interrupted by two customers, but when they eventually decided to serve us, we were hit by the hard sell - "coffee?". We were a bit worried that if we said yes, his girlfriend might make it and throw it over him, so we ran off instead! We could still hear them arguing seven hours later when we came back....
In the coffee shop we met an American couple called Mark and Sarah, and his daughter Callie. Rach was VERY excited that they spoke English (all round Italy, if she even heard so much as a Cockney twang she started jumping around like it was xmas yelling "They're from ENGLAND!") After finding out that there wasn't another bus for the next two hours, we went into the local Trattoria where Mark bought us beer. He decided that we shouldn't have to wait and spent the next half hour trying to bribe any old Italian that they realllllllly wanted to drop everything and take us to the beach. Anyone, that is, except the actual taxi driver. Said taxi driver was in his forties and completely demented! At one point he got out of his taxi and smacked another taxi driver in the face! They say Italian's have got tempers, and we boy did we see it. It was quite funny watching Mark trying to explain why we wouldn't get in the taxi, with me and Rach doing a reconstruction of the fight for them!
We finally got to the beach and had a great time. Mark was telling us all about his life... When he started mentioning things like, "I used to work on Wall Street", "I'm retired now as I sold all five of my companies" and "I set up a 'Raw' restaurant with a friend but it went bust, but it's okay because I only lost $25k" that we realised he was actually a millionaire....probably.
On Thursday we went to the Vatican and St. Peter's square which was quite eventful. Rach and I played a game called "Spot the Holy People". Ten points for a priest, twenty for a nun and a million for the Pope himself. Game was automatically won if either of us saw a nun on a moped! Rach kicked my arse at this; final score was Rach = 180 Sam = 60.
Rach also had the trauma of someone actually throwing a pigeon on her. She didn't sceam, but then got a bit hysterical about pigeon fleas and it took me about half an hour to convince her she didn't have rabies.....
We got back to England yesterday, having survived the taxi trip to the airport (only just - total and utter nutters on the road. So I have convinced Rach we are suitable drivers over here). We had to get up at 4a.m and were very grumpy by the time we got here.
Today we have been on the London eye and nearly murdered a whole group of Turks in the queue who were the most annoying people I think we have EVER met. Getting the plane early tomorrow....so bye for now!!
Leave us comments! (love the Trevor fountain, and there are two different stories behind the Sue and Linda thing so will tell you later) Forever 21 here we come!!
Speak to you in New York, Love Sam, Rach and Teebs xxxx
