Oh, the weather outside is frightful!
February 17, 2008 - Athens, Greece
See, I'm getting a little better at this blog thing! So 2/15- it was by far the sweetest day ever! We performed scenes for theatre, and we got to perform them in the Odeon theatre! This was amazing because NO ONE ever gets to go inside. David talked to a lot of people to get us in, and the acoustics were absolutely amazing! You could be talking in a normal voice and hear it all the way in the back of the theatre. Not only was this space gorgeous, it was a beautiful day as well. So, instead of going to the Byzantine Museum, we hiked up Mount Lycabettus. And hike we did. We were all out of breathe and hot when we got to the top, and some of us enjoyed a picnic lunch at the top. A chicken sandwich tastes much better after a strenuous climb! There was a small church at the peak, with a bell tower, and a small cafe a little way down. It was such a gorgeous day, and you can see all of Athens and to the sea! There's nothing like it. After dinner a bunch of us went clubbing! We have a friend Vassilis who works at a cafe in the Plaka (the area we're staying at). So he brought some friends, and we all went to a club that played American rap and hip hop music from the 90s. Ha, it was a great time, and I met a guy named Claudeyon...I don't actually know how to spell his name, but his nickname is Claude, so that's easier, but he doesn't speak or understand any english, which was interesting to deal with...Anyway, onto Saturday! David met a theatre guy who studies ancient Greek plays. We had a theatre workshop from 1 to 630...and it was pretty out there...we were doing scenes from Ajax, and it felt more like tribal dances, and being ridiculous, and ancient Greek texts. Anyway, we were apparently pirates, so we had black fabric tied around our heads, pretty much like do-rags, and then we put face paint on...and it was weird. For 5 or so hours. We finally get back to the hotel for dinner, which was cheese pie (delicious) and then chicken and rice, and yogurt with honey. It was hectic though because another large group is now staying at the hotel. A private boys high school group is here from New York, about 40 I would say, so it's a good thing we're leaving soon. We watched 300 too, so that was nice to have a movie night. Today we went to a virtual reality tour of the Agora, basically the central location in ancient Athens where politics, markets, and everyone assembled. It was ok, but the animation was really hoaxy. So now I'm going to work on some homework, and warm up. I don't pity you back at home anymore because it is snowing today. That's right, snow. We had a snowball fight in the street and it's impressive because the snow is actually sticking, plus, it's falling in big flakes, so it's very beautiful. But cold, and windy. Brrr. Well, stay warm!!!

Have fun... je t'aime
