Bridgwater was not a stunning place - I couldn't find a B&B in the vicinity which had availability. Whilst riding around I discovered very little reason to hang around so continued on to Street next to Glastonbury. Street is famous as the home of Clarke's Shoes and of Millfield School with all their great facilities and high achievers. They have always excelled in the swimming pool with an illustrious list of allumni - sorry to use the american phrase here ![]()
It seems that the town of Street has changed out of all recognition - ok I did recognise a few parts but Millfield School have aparently sold off lots of land and there are now new housing estates around the school. The B&B's that I remember have vanished.
By the time I'd finished looking both at Bridgwater and Street and riding between them it was 8pm. It was dark and I was glad of the Ian Tivey's suggestion to buy the Respro 'Hump', a luminous rucksack cover with reflective tape - very striking. That together with my small LED front and back lights gave me plenty of confidence to ride in the dark - no worse than during the day - possibly made me more visible because the 'hump' really is very hi-viz. Thanks Ian - worth the investment.
Ended up in a hotel but the upside was that I could order fresh tuna - just what the doctor ordered. But a late night
