So, Nagpur. It's a relatively quiet town, though population-wise it tops 2 million, so it's not a tiny town. However, if you're part of Sophie's family, everything and everyone is within easy walking distance! We spent our time relaxing, eating and meeting all the family in Nagpur. We also visited family heritage sites ie. the block of land where Sophie's dad lived - now there's a big ugly building there. It was nice to eat some home-cooked food again, and to get a feel of 'real' India outside of the tourist track. It was a very pleasant few days for us both and Sophie now has a small portion of her family tree checked off (we have to head to the UK and Canada to cover the rest!)
Now we're in Mumbai, brushing shoulders with the rich and famous from Bollywood (we've been asked to be extras in a film a couple of times but we declined the offer as Sophie felt it was beneath her acting skills
). It's a lovely place with ancient Gothic buildings surrounded by quite clean leafy streets, NO autorickshaws and very few cows! Sometimes it doesn't really feel like India at all - but a few seconds through the market stalls near our hotel changes all that. We've spent our time visiting some museums and galleries, and just walking through the streets, stopping for food every now and then. Also, for those who are wondering (ie. parents) Dave's mobile STILL doesn't have coverage. Dave sent an abusive email to Optus today, so all is good.
Tomorrow night we're heading to Goa to chill out on the beach for a bit. Three weeks to go!
