Xi'an

April 12, 2008

Well I think that the cold weather is starting to catch up with me, feel rotten today with a sore throat and fever. Its pretty cold and wet at the moment, we are hoping it will brighten up a bit but the smog and pollution is pretty bad all across China apparently.

We spent two days in Shanghai which was a bit of a let down, pretty much another big city but not much in the way of things to see. We went to the museum and wandered through the differecnt decades of pottery, furniture and art couldnt beleive how old some of the stuff was, near 3000yrs! Then we hit the shops to spend Carolines money the markets were huge and oh so cheap! We ate out in the local food stalls wherewe tried noodle soup where you get to pick what you want in it from a selection of veg, fish and meat on kebabs. Then they stick them all in with the rest of the boiling broth, add noodles and serve pipping hot - yum!

The over night train was pretty good again up here, think we've managed to get the class right and get a good nights sleep. The place we are in now is called Xi'an sort of north west of the country. Its well known because it has a restored city walls surrounding it which are very impresive, we are going to attempt to cycle around them. Im off now to curl up in bed with some hot tea and pills, terrocota warriors tomorrow, dont want to miss them! xx
