Still Getting There

May 30, 2008 - Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

Am in Abu Dhabi for 2 hours and it is midnight here but 7-30am Friday at home. Have had 16 hours flying with an hour stop-over in Singapore.

Business Class is out of this world. We each have our own 'pod' so we had privacy. Each pod is over 6 foot long so there is no worries about leg room. I spent the time with my feet up on the foot seat, the massager on, the back rest reclined in about 6 different positions and watched movies (400 of them on an 15 inch screen) and listened to my own playlist that I had sorted out from 600 albums. Oh yes, also 200 games. There is a camera in the nose of the plane so I watched takeoff and landing. Wouldn't be a good idea if you were crashing!

There were only 10 of us with 2 hosties and 2 loos so there was no waiting for services or queing for the toilet - oh yes, red roses were in the loo! Before we took off I had French Champers with canapes then wine with my dinner. As most of you know that is deadly for me!! For dinner we had a printed menu with 2 entrees, choice of 4 mains, hot rolls, dessert, cheese, fruit, all different coffees and teas and chocs. Plus of course an International wine menu. We have our own white linen tablecloth and napkin and if any terrorists want to hijack a plane they need to travel business class - silver utensils and glass glasses. The standard was as good as in a 5 star restaurant.

This is the 3rd Business Lounge I have been in to-day/to-night and they are stacked high with free drinks, hot and cold food, packets of chips etc plus all the newspapers and magazines. Showers, internet etc

On each leg they have given us a canvas toilet pack that weighs a ton - will have to refuse any more as I will be over in my luggage. I counted about 18 items in each - lip gloss, shower gel, comb, large toothpaste etc

Slept for 5 hours. Just pressed a button and the seat moved forward joining up with the foot seat and the back went down so I was totally flat with inches to spare. A lovely thick pillow and suade rug and I slept like a baby.

The Duty free shops look good and very reasonable here esp. gold. Laptops under $1000 and mobiles Nokia etc about $30.

If anyone wants me to get something for them on the way home when I have 2 days here just let me know and I will see what I can do.

Ok, saga over. Now get back to work and I'll go and have a nice French wine and talk to some good looking arabs in flowing white gowns - quite sexy really!

Next entry will be from Greece and I expect a few clean comments from you by then.

Sounds like you have died and gone to heaven.

boy what luxury made me feel green with envy.
It must be like heaven without going to the great beyond.

look forward to hearing about the Greek Odyssey.
