Santorini 2

June 7, 2008

Hi All. The other blog went deadon me so for the continuation  I am not checking spelling or spacing. Yesterday it was lousy weather so the 5 of us went to Spa of the Gods where we had massages, facials, foot massages etc - all in underground wine caves. Costs $800a night in off season. But it is absolutely superb. In the afternoonwe went down to the port by cable car and boarded a large sailing boat. We sailed across to the volcanic island where some walked to the top. I stayed with Valerie as she has had polio and couldn't walk the 1 and 1/2 hours up to the top - was a good excuse. Then we sailed to a hot springs. What they didn't tell us was that you had to swim 120mt in 60 mts deep Agean Sea to reach them. The other 4 dared me to go first - as I was the oldest and like an idiot I did. The Greeks are so relaxed. The captain said that if we got into trouble to raise our hand and they would dive in. Pride alone only stopped me from raising the hand as I really struggled. Had forgotten that my idea of swimming was floating on a lylo. I barely made it then of course had to get back.Have taken wonderful photos of the sunset. This morning we went to Pyrgos which is a village of churches - all very steep climbs. Have bought plenty iof things.Problem now is getting them home. Tonight we are going to Oia about 20 minutes by car. Meant to be beautiful and a great place to see the sunset.  Also went to a beach to-day. No sand only Volcanic soil/sand which stains the feet. Fat ladies all topless so we all looked good. Can't believe how many fatties there are in Greece and all wear tight clothes and look disgusting.
Must go as I have another 5 things on mylist of things to do to-day,including riding a dockey up the cliff face.  Will recharge my camera and post some pictures.
Love to all
Jo

I thought you only had bathing suits that never got wet! Those Greek sailors must have been looking pretty good for you to attempt a swim ashore. Tell the truth, how many times did you put your hand up???
