The Elephant House

May 21, 2008 - Edinburgh, United Kingdom

I know this maybe difficult to believe; it is for me.

I am sitting in the same cafe J.K. Rowling sat in while writing the first book of Harry Potter! This place is in Edinburgh right off the Royal Mile, a little quaint place called The Elephant House. Simple coffee and food house located near an exquisite view of the Edinburgh Castle, the Edinburgh School for Boys, and an eery graveyard.

Rowling mentioned that she knew the whole story of HP before she wrote each book. This graveyeard seems very similar to the one that shows up in later books. Also the Castle can only inspire one's imagination, and having a School for Boys positioned right in view can really help anyone to understand where Rowling came up with the plots to the famous HP series.

So, you are probably wondering how my whole Scotland adventure went!?

Not to keep you wondering until tomorrow night when I'll be able to post pictures and video or anything, but I must let on that it was VERY exciting! The 3-day tour was full of fabulous fun and interestnig information. Just wait until I can explain the way the Scottish Lochs and Glens can actually 'take your breathe away'. It will only be then that you might understand a glimpse of what Scotland is really all about. Nay the castles by far, but the real life beauty of God's perfection.

So as the Scots would say in Gaelic, "Cheery!"

How much fun to read about your experience in The Elephant House! I've read about her there; she would sit all day writing, nursing a cup of coffee, as she was very poor at the time. So different from her financial status today. I think she's richer than the Queen of England!
Thanks for sharing this. I'm looking foward to seeing your pics of Scotland! You are indeed a world traveler, and we are too, as armchair visitors!

Love to you,

Aunt Kathleen
