Suzi and I stayed with my cousin Andrew Brenner and his wife Kassie in their amazing apartment which let you gaze through the rooftops towards the Heidelberg Castle. One day it was Suzi’s Birthday, and the next it was the Brenners’ 1-year anniversary. So along with the great authentic German food that the city offered, I was also able to try an amazing selection of German beers and wines. Also, in Europe, it is white asparagus season, so anything that could be made from asparagus was. It was quite a delightful treat!
One day we took a high degree train ride up to the castle for a picnic. Suzi and I explored the ins and outs of the castle grounds, and we all partook of wonderful sandwiches with local cheeses. The weather was absolutely amazing the whole time.I was also able to brush up on my German language. I took 2 years of it in High School; but, if you don’t use it you loose it. So even though I practiced before my trip, the actual fact of being around it so much is really what helped me catch on again.
I had a great time in Heidelberg and cannot wait to explore the rest of Germany one day!
