Bangkok

December 14, 2009 - Bangkok, Thailand

We arrived in bangkok shortly after five in the morning and went in search for a hotel room. At the (in)famouse kosun road the party had just started and we managed to find a room on one of the parallel streets. After a nice nap we decided to try and do the most of the sightseeing, something that was gonna proof harder than what we excpected.

Basically, if the tuk-tuk driver takes his customers to a shop on the way to the destination, he gets gasoline, which means that we as customers only have to pay 20 % of the normal price.

Because we had a few things to see we made a deal with our driver to take us to all our destinations and along the way to 3 of his "sponsors". Here we thought we could be a little bit clever, therefore we told the driver to go to the stores first and the we would have the rest of the time for our temples and buddha statues. After 2 indian tailors and 1 chinese jewlery shop we could finally begin our exploration of cultural bangkok. After we visited the wonderful Golden Mountain ( and bought 2 clocks for luck and fame that we rang on the top) we made our way to our tuk-tuk to go to our next stop and ........... yes ofcourse, no tuktuk driver. He had got soo much gasoline from us two that he could open up his own gas station (which he probably did) and he didnt need to drive us anymore. So we had to get another tuktuk and go to another indian taylor.... u get the idea. Add to this a royal palaces that closes 2 hours before we were told (by our gas station owner) and its easy to understand that we felt far from satisfied from our daytrip. The next day we spend xmas shopping in one of the huge shopping districts (there is about 20). It was a weird feeling walking around listening to xmas music and looking at xmas decorations in 33 C heat. We rounded of the night eating schnitzels at a german resturant and finally watching a 3D xmas movie at one of the (again) huge cinema complexes. The next morning I woke up with stomach pains and this kept me in bed for the whole day. Nathalie used this time for sampling the local shopping streets and what they had to offer. The next day we left Bangkok ( one day late because of my horrendous stomach sickness) and headed south for the islands of Ko Phangan and Ko Tao.

Sorry about your stomach prob…What a thing to happen! The Thai food is pretty good and within walkable distance from centrally located cheap hotels in Bangkok.
