Saturday 14th JunePastries very nice for breakfast. We left the campsite about 10am drove about 10k down the road and came to a place called Mornas we saw a Farmers Market so decided to get our fruit. It was such a quaint little place, when we walked around we then found that they had a Fortress on the top of mountain over looking the town. They believe that this Fortress goes back to Roman times. Eddie decided that we could walk up the mountain, I am not kidding, the walk was up the steepest of hills. It took him and me I might add, a couple of rests and about 40minutes to walk it. Very interesting when we got up there. They have been working on restoring it since 1978, the sad part of that is that they are not using traditional materials to do this. We are making our way to Avignon but decided to go via Carpentras and then into Avignon. Avignon is beside the river, so there are a number of canal boats and then the old city. Eddie was very tiried from his walk in the morning so we could not go very far into the tourist area, the problem we have is that we have to park the Motorhome so far from anything. We did go into the city and found a small café-bar and they guy there served us a great lunch and then gave us some suggestions, in broken English, what we should go and see. From there it was off to Nimes, we drove through the centre of town only to find ourselves in one way traffic and in the middle of a wedding. They decorate a number of cars and then processed to blow their car horns with hazard lights going. To begin with we thought we had done something wrong, but no it was just the wedding letting everyone know.We had a bit of trouble finding our way out of Nimes, I wanted to find the D999 highway but ended up on the N113 to Montpellier and I had decided earlier in the day I was going to take the other road. Anyway after quite a few k’s I managed to cut across the country side to a place could Boisseron, which we stayed for the night. We are having heaps of problems with the fact that we only have a little bit of French and they have little or no English in the camping grounds, but we get there in the end.Sunday 15th JuneToday is going to be a big drive as I have decided to go over the mountains from Sommieres, another great little town. These little towns that we come across are just incredible, some of the views are breathtaking. Eddie has heaps of photos.I want to go to Millau, which has the amazing bridge, which they call the ‘Le Viaduc de Millau’. The way it was constructed and the finished bridge is just awesome, I am sure my father would have been in envy of this bridge. The road to get there, or the way I decided to go, went over the Seranne ranges, some 890 metres at the top. So it was very winding and slow, but well worth it and we found some absolutely wonderful villages on the way. One we stopped at for lunch, we could not take the van up to and had to walk the last 20 metres. A place called ‘la Cavalerie’, which had a Café-Bar and they all seem to have set menus which makes it easier for us. Except today I ordered something that was made out of sheep stomach, could not eat it.Then onto Millau and see the bridge. We are staying the night in ‘Lac du Bage’, which is a camping ground on the lake here, which I think has the same name. Tomorrow it is off to Montauban and Cahors into the Bordeaux region.
