Still NO LUCK :(

July 8, 2008 - Wokingham, United Kingdom

I JUST WANT TO SCREAM!!! Nothing seems to be straight forward over here.

Last week I spoke to a lady from one of the jobs I've gone for.  They had orginally said that I need to have 3 forms of ID to get the CRB check started - then I could start working whilst I waited for it to arrive just meant I couldn't be with the kids on my own.  But then she rang me last week and said that I could use my NZ Police check in the mean time, but just had to wait for my bank statement to come through confirming my address.  Which meant that I then had 2 forms of ID, and just needed to wait for my National Insurance Number to come through.

I got my bank statement yesterday, all excited about getting things moving forward, I rang them today....BUT, my bubble was quickly burst.  NOPE!! I still need to have 3 forms of ID, police my NZ police check.  I need to have either a bill (which I don't have cause nothing is in my name), NHS card (which I also don't have because I'm not signed up with a doctor), or a store card (which I went to get one today, but because I haven't been living here for longer than 3 years it's a bit more harder to get one)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So really I am screwed, and it's starting to make me sooooooooooooo ANGRY!!!!!!! If I had known that it was going to be this difficult I would have started doing all this crap before I left NZ, e.g. applying for my national insurance number before I left NZ.

So...I'm still bored outta my brains, waiting and trying to get things sorted for this CRB check.  I can understand where it comes from, but I think they should make it a little bit easier to get these sorts of things done.  I'm surely not the first and only person to come over from overseas to try and get a job in a daycare centre.  Like why can't I use my NZ drivers license?? It's just stupid if you ask me!

I will go to the doctors surgery tomorrow to see about getting my NHS card, and hope that it's a bit more straight forward than everything else over here.

Hope all is well back home with everybody!!! Love you all and miss you heaps!!!

Hi Vic,

Boy, this is sounding very frustrating for you. Like others have said, it' been really cold here - lots of snow everywhere - but a beaut day today. Just think - you'll be able to write a book about your experiences. Others would definitely benefit from it.

Take care, Jen
