First day in Australia.....

December 30, 2009 - Sydney, Australia

We had a long long trip from singapore via KL to melbourne. From there we had a hitch-ride planned in the morning with a English guy. 10 hours from Melbourne to Sydney.

He was late. 1 hour late and his phone was off. (I was thinking bout the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy: "don't panic. Don't panic! DON'T PANIC!!!.")  Luckily he was just late and had lost his phone-charger. Pffjiiiew.

IMG_3303So we were driving over what appearantly was the most boring piece of road in the whole of australie, i thought it was really nice so that promises a lot. We saw our first kangaroo (laying dead next to the road) and know why you need airconditioning in the car.. IMG_3297IMG_3302

Then.... Then halfway, 70 km from Canberra the coolerhose popped. Broken. Of course.. IMG_3298

So we had to stay a night in a park. Een geluk bij een ongeluk, tur i oturen; it was a nice park with a barbeque, a river in which we could swim and wash ourselves (with biodegradable soap of course) and we encountered what the backpackers drink in Australia (a white wine/ lemon juice mix; terribel but cheap).

IMG_3301IMG_3299Next day we found the only carmechanic in town closed. But we found a car wreck standing abandoned and falling apart next to the road so we toke their coolerhose and ducktaped that one over the old and broken one. Held fine. We drove all the way to sydney with it and it held perfectly.  Nice first encounter with Australia. We had a very good time and i can't wait to go roadtrippin' again (they got this relocation-cars for 1 dollar a day with free fuel IF you're lucky, and i'm lucky a lot..)

Now we're in Sydney safe and sound. (Bit shitty that our hostel is fucking expensive (it was the only one left in august with a double room under a 100 euro a night) and that it has a lot of stupid shitty rules, like the kitchen closes at 10 pm, no alcohol allowed after 10, absolute silence at 11, free bikes for rent but you can only drive them 4 km far (thats not even to the nearest mall), and more of this little things that combined really pushes on my/our cranky buttons. Bah.)

Tomorrow we meet up with the swedes and some dutch to drink some disgusting (cheapcheap) white wine lemon mix in the park and see the awsome fireworks.. We will make pictures.

We got an australian phone number now (for all your happy new years sms-es haha) +61451166081

Happy new year to everyone!

P.S. Why does everyone always say Japan is so expensive?

School is semi ok, passed the most important project of this period with a 7. You can check it out on noraverbraakphotography.blogspot.com (the pics are rather sad though so...) But enough about school.
Where are you now and are you ok? Ate any more bugs or saw any live kangaroooooos? I loved to see the videos, live footage yeah!
Ok well, have lots more fun and I love you and miss you and know that you are heaving fun but still think you should come back early for Carnaval :) (and bring some of those male friends from the video hahah)
