About us
Eric grew up in the Lower Mainland, B.C., and Rachel in rural Manitoba. We married young and, although we wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, it has worked out amazingly well for us. We have evolved into a partnership that shares the same values, ideals, and goals. We are proponents of social justice, equality, and indigenous rights, and are actively working on changing our lives to reflect these beliefs.
About our trip
We began our journey in 2007 by quitting our jobs and leaving a sort of stability to travel around Canada, starting on the west coast and hoping to eventually get to the east coast. We wandered around the islands of B.C. by foot, living only with what we could carry in our backpacks. When the money ran out, we weren’t sure how to continue our journey, but through a series of events we became involved in a school bus conversion. Our travelling is on pause while we create this custom bus-house, which we hope will enable us to travel and live simultaneously. In the meantime, we are paying dearly for our attempt to escape.
We feel somewhat like pioneers, as we have broken away from the typical routine of North American life, and are seeking to connect with other travellers. As nomads (at least for now) we are interested in exploring the dynamics of relationships and community that exist beyond the usual physical boundaries that define communities.
