Yesterday, after Julie went for a bit of a jog, we took the bus and a street car to get to the French Quarter. The bus stop was in front of three homes that have not been fixed since Katrina. Waterlines were still visible on the windows, It was a great way to get to see some of the city and get a taste of everyday life here. The people have been very friendly and the streetcapes are unlike anything I have ever encountered. After eating some famous BBQ in the Quarter, we went on the cruise ship Natches down (or up?) the Mississippi. the went shopping down the harbour front and had a great conversation with a homeless busker and his friend. before eating a supper of Jumbalaya. After some more drinks and shopping/ sightseeing, we met our host Darryl for a late supper (yes two suppers...when the food is this good, one should always squeeze in another meal). I had the Cajun pasta which was, arguably, the best tasting meal I've ever had.
mom M... OK was great but besides the noodling festival. we really didn't stop anywhere. No checkstops at any state borders but it is, in some states, illegal to transport alcohol across the state line,
Darrell.. do yo mean Mott's Place on the point or Smarts place in the little bay?
OK..it's early in the morning and the plan is to spot an alligator today.. tell Kevin I will be careful.
By the way, I noticed that only a few of you have signed up for the e-mail notification on this site... be sure to do that as well as checking out the map tap to get a visual of where we have travelled.
