Leaving Roswell NM - Ozona Texas

May 1, 2010 - Ozona, Texas, United States

Saturday May 1 2010

Up early again for the road trip to Ozona, Texas for an overnight stay before continuing on to San Antonio. We travelled south from Roswell on US285 via Artesia & stopped in Carlsbad we decided to do our laundry (Bill, check out this Laundromat! – we were able to do a very large load for $4.00 including drying & a nice chat with the friendly attendant).

We continued on south where we crossed over into West Texas & finally after 11 years, Yoli was home again! After a photo op at the state line signs, we passed through Pecos before joining I-40 at Fort Stockton & heading east. We arrived in Ozona at about 4.00pm, this place is tiny. We found the street where the motel is situated, a beautiful tree lined street with with southern style houses (heck we ARE in the south !). After driving though the canopy of trees, we came upon the Travelodge & immediately renamed it the “Bates Motel” – the place was deserted, we weren’t even sure if it was still open as we had booked online months ago & our car was the only one there! I discovered there was in fact someone there when I entered reception, the lady gave us a room at the far end of the complex – why I don’t really know but at least it would be quiet.

After settling in to our room we decided to go see what we could get for dinner, we drove around the whole town in 15 mins & decided on a little mexican restaurant we came across on the far side of town. The food there was very good, so good that I had to get some more beans & rice to go! There wasn’t much to do here so we went back to the room to update our journal only to discover that we were so far from reception that you had to go outside to get a wifi connection – we watched TV instead. Later that night we went outside & found that there were only 3 other cars in the car park – at least someone was around. We turned in before midnight so we would be ready to hit the road to San Antonio the next day.

Next Journal: Is anybody going to San Antone?
